Should the people living today be held responsible for terrible things done long ago by their ancestors?

We cannot repatriate the past, compensate it, or reconcile with it enough to make it unhappen. What was done is part of history, and history cannot be rewritten. The real value of repatriation and reconciliation is not changing yesterday—it is deciding what we do with its legacy today, and whether we can turn an inherited wound into a healed world.
